ROY — A 9-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Roy near the Ogden-Hinckley Airport.
According to a press release from the Roy City Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of 4400 South and 1900 West at around 5:40 p.m. following a report of an auto-pedestrian collision. It was later determined that the boy was crossing 1900 West from the southwest corner to the southeast corner on a scooter — and within the marked crosswalk — when he was hit by a southbound vehicle.
It was also determined through the preliminary investigation that the traffic lights for the vehicle were red at the time of the incident, and the child boy was crossing the street as allowed crossing signals, Roy police say.
The boy was initially transported to a local hospital by Roy City EMS and, later, airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. As of the latest update, he is listed in stable condition.
The Weber-Metro C.R.A.S.H. team and crime scene investigators responded to diagram the incident and assist with evidence collection. Police noted that the driver involved is cooperating fully with the investigation, which is ongoing. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
