Weber County Sheriff’s Office: Teenage hiker died Thursday in Taylor Canyon
OGDEN — A juvenile male was killed in a hiking accident near Ogden last Thursday.
On Tuesday, Lt. Colby Ryan told the Standard-Examiner that the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies had been summoned to Taylor Canyon for a hiking accident around 5 p.m. Thursday.
“We got a report of a missing hiker,” he said. “A 17-year-old from out of state had gone hiking while family was out running errands. We paged out our search-and-rescue team and our drone team. The drone team was able to locate the boy about a 30 minute hike up Taylor Canyon. The hike team, as well as medical staff from Ogden Fire and the (Utah Department of Public Safety) Aero Bureau were able to get up to the boy (and) he was transported to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries.”
Ryan said it appeared the hiker had fallen off a cliff onto the rocks below and no foul play is suspected, though an investigation is still ongoing. Due to the victim’s age, he said, a name will not be released.
Responders were on the scene for about two and a half hours, Ryan said.
