OGDEN — Job seekers in and around Weber County will have an opportunity to land new jobs with the Internal Revenue Service at a hiring event this week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the IRS will host a direct hiring event at the Ogden Courtyard by Marriott — located at 247 24th St. — for clerk and tax examiner positions. The federal agency is looking to fill as many as 100 positions at its Ogden processing center.

The hourly pay for these entry-level positions starts between $16.95 and $18.96, according to a news release announcing the event. Full-time, seasonal positions on day and swing shifts will be offered. Prior tax experience is not required as comprehensive training is provided to new hires.

“The IRS is in a period of tremendous growth,” IRS spokesperson Jeanne Rohrer told the Standard-Examiner. “Since 2022, the IRS has been hiring regularly. Since the Inflation Reduction Act, so far, 11,000 people have been hired.”

Rohrer added that the IRS hosts “numerous” in-person and virtual hiring events across the country each month.

Clerks and tax examiners perform a variety of administrative tasks and duties associated with tax administration, per the release. Duties vary based on the position and may include identifying and reviewing forms, preparing inventory reports, reviewing filed material, transcribing taxpayer documents, responding to taxpayer correspondence, resolving account issues and reviewing tax returns for errors and/or missing information.

Prospective employees can register and apply for pre-qualification online, first by visiting the Eventbrite announcement page at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/irs-ogden-ut-in-person-hiring-event-clerk-and-tax-examiner-positions-tickets-1053972713759/.

The job listing can be found at https://www.usajobs.gov/job/814677700/.

Walk-in applicants also will be accepted after noon and must bring their resume and two forms of ID. They also must bring a mobile device to set up an account on the USAJOBS website. However, Rohrer said that the IRS highly recommends that job seekers preregister and apply to the job listing before the event.

IRS hiring officials will be making on-the-spot job offers to qualified attendees.

“There are a lot of great reasons to work for the IRS. The IRS offers competitive wages, exceptional benefits; there are clear career development and advancement opportunities,” Rohrer said. “It’s meaningful work. We inform and educate the public on their tax responsibilities and we try to keep them up to date on tax law changes that can affect their life and their situation. So, efforts that help make America stronger.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
