NORTH OGDEN — A major resurfacing project is getting underway this week.

Work began Monday on road work along Washington Boulevard, also called state Route 235, from 2600 North to 400 North.

Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Mitch Shaw told the Standard-Examiner the project has several elements.

“We’re going in there and resurfacing the road to extend the life of the pavement,” he said. “The pavement is getting worn out there. … We’re also replacing some sidewalk, pedestrian ramps and we’re building a new platform for a UTA bus stop.”

Work began Monday and is expected to take through late June.

Shaw says the majority of work will actually be completed after sundown.

“We’re going to do nighttime work and we’re going to be doing it Sunday through Thursday (from) 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.,” Shaw said. “That’s a busy section of road, and people are obviously still on the road at 7 p.m. But we wanted to finish at 5 a.m. so the morning commute is clear and then we didn’t want to start in the afternoon hours when people are coming home from the evening commute.”

He said travelers should still be on the lookout for the usual construction accompaniments.

“There will be some lane closures and reduced speeds in the construction zones and some moderate delays,” he said.
