PETERSON — Investigators are awaiting a medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of a 38-year-old skier’s death after a crash during a run Sunday at the private Wasatch Peaks Ranch resort.

Sgt. Todd Christensen of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the man, a Salt Lake City resident, was skiing with friends at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday when he hit a snow berm that caused him to crash.

The cause of death is being investigated as an accidental crash, Christensen said. The man had no obvious external injuries and may have had a medical issue, so the body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office, he said.

The resort issued a statement about the incident:

“Wasatch Peaks Ranch regretfully confirms a tragic incident which took place on the mountain today involving a 38-year old man from Salt Lake City.

“The guest was transported off the mountain and transferred to Morgan County EMS. He was pronounced deceased while being transported to the hospital.

“Wasatch Peaks Ranch, our Ski Patrol and our entire staff extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
