Several WSU students temporarily displaced following fire on Christmas Day
OGDEN — No injuries were reported following a fire in a Weber State University residence building on Christmas Day.
According to WSU Public Relations Director Bryan Magaña, authorities were summoned to a grease fire Monday evening at University Village.
“Fire crews responded to reports of a fire in the second floor apartment in Building 5, around 7 p.m. Monday,” he said. The fire was quickly put out by sprinklers, but the room and those adjacent and below it suffered water damage.”
Magaña said no injuries were reported but eight students have been temporarily displaced by the fire.
“University housing staff are helping relocate those residents to other rooms in the complex,” he said. “Since then, we don’t have any new information other than a recovery team was called in to assist with clean-up efforts.”
Additionally, Magaña said the damage should be repaired soon.
“Crews are still assessing damage today (Tuesday), but we’re hopeful repairs will be finished before, or very close, to the start of the semester,” he said. “In the meantime, the students are now settled into other rooms.”
According to WSU’s website, the spring semester is set to begin Jan. 8.
