OGDEN — Pineview Water Systems recently announced that filling of secondary water for local residents will be delayed until May 2 in an effort to ensure water will be available for delivery later into the irrigation season.

According to Pineview management, shutting off water early is likely given current water levels, the ongoing drought and needed water restrictions. Pineview General Manager Ben Quick was not immediately available for comment on current water levels.

Typically, water delivery to the system is turned off around Oct. 15, with dates varying based on available water supplies.

Areas being served by the Weber Basin Conservancy District, including portions of South Ogden, Washington Terrace, Farr West and Plain City, will have access to the secondary system in mid-May with a 60% reduction in water allocation.

Secondary water restrictions for the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is pending approval by the Weber Basin board of trustees on March 31.

Tentative restrictions include timed watering of lawns and gardens once a week, prohibition of new landscapes, delayed pressurization, and early shutoff and reductions on agricultural, wholesale and retail water contracts.

System pressurization will be reduced as repairs are made to address mainline breaks sustained during the winter months, a process Pineview says could take anywhere from one week to one month depending on the severity of the damage.

In order to fix breaks, crews first use the water to locate them and gauge their severity. Those using secondary water are being asked to check for leaks within personal systems by shutting off individual master valves before May 1.

According to Pineview management, there have been instances of flooding to homes from leaks in personal systems. Current conservation guidelines include: immediate repair to water lines and sprinkler heads, keeping water from running down gutters or into neighboring properties, and keeping water from spraying onto streets, sidewalks or other hard surfaces.

If a leak is located downstream of the district’s valve or meter, homeowners are responsible for repairs. However, if the leak is prior to the district’s valve, residents are asked to contact the district or appropriate operating agency immediately.

The Ogden River Water Users’ Association, one of three entities comprising Pineview Water Systems, reported 11,757 acre feet of storage water in the reservoir by the end of December 2021.

Weber Basin Water Conservancy District General Manager Scott Paxman said earlier this month that reservoirs are far below the norm, sitting around 39% of capacity.

Starting at $4.32/week.
