Historical photos, stories of Riverdale wanted for local history book
RIVERDALE — A local woman is looking for historical photos and stories of Riverdale for a book to be published next year.
Riverdale resident Camee Ellis is working with local history publisher Arcadia Publishing to compile a photographic history of Riverdale, “covering the earliest days of the settlement to the present,” according to a press release.
Ellis will take photos, maps, postcards, illustrations and stories from residents and assemble them into a book, “Images of America: Riverdale” that will be published in 2018. It will be sold in local stores and online.
Proceeds will go toward future city history preservation projects, the press release said.
The types of photos and stories Ellis is looking for include:
- Early settlers and residents
- Early buildings and structures, such as the mill, schoolhouses, churches, canning factories, blacksmith shop, creamery, post office, etc.
- Farms, orchards, dairy and livestock, horses, etc.
- Outdoor activities, historic homes, schools, churches, etc.
- Former, current, long-time and family-owned businesses
- Events in Riverdale like past and present Old Glory Days, 1999 Canal Disaster, etc.
- People of Riverdale, including prominent citizens, and any other photos of interest.
To share your photos and stories, please contact Ellis at RememberRiverdale@gmail.com by Aug. 1.
Residents can also bring their photos to special scanning events, being held from 12-3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 17, at the Riverdale Community Center, 4360 Parker Drive.
A photo release must be signed to give permission to include photos in the book and to be shared with Riverdale City and Weber State University’s Special Collections for future use, the press release said. WSU’s Special Collections staff will be on site to scan.
