‘Bear Lake Monster’ surfaces as dead carcass in satirical report
The legend of the Bear Lake Monster refuses to die. Especially when a fake news website writes about a monstrous carcass supposedly washing up on the shore of the northern Utah lake.
World News Daily Report posted a satirical report on Monday, Feb. 15, about the carcass of a 25-foot “unidentified creature resembling a dinosaur” supposedly being found on the lake’s western shore. You can see photos of it here.
World News Daily Report is a tabloid-style site that offers a disclaimer saying it assumes “all responsibility for the satirical nature of its articles and for the fictional nature of their content.”

A Standard-Examiner story on June 6, 2015 reported that rumors of giant creatures in Bear Lake date back to Native American legends and were first reported by Mormon pioneer settlers in the summer of 1868.
Animal Planet’s Lost Tapes program featured a piece on the lake monster.
Communities surrounding Bear Lake make use of the monster legend with such events as the Bear Lake Monster Winterfest each January.
