OGDEN — Following a public hearing during its meeting Tuesday, the Weber County Commission approved a development agreement to rezone 0.92 acres, located at approximately 2139 S. 4300 West, from agricultural to commercial use.

The property is adjacent to West Field High School at 2007 S. 4300 West, and its rezoning will bring into compliance the operation of The Shed Indoor Pickleball, which is located at the rear of the lot behind a house on the property.

Baked into the development agreement are restrictions on what kind of development can occur on the lot in the future.

Relative to the new high school, the commission also approved a contract by and between the county and Alta Excavation for the 2200 South Improvement Project.

The project involves the widening of 2200 South from 4300 West to the west side of the school. This will allow for the creation of a middle turn lane on the roadway outside of the school’s southern lot entry.

The timeline for the project as defined in the contract calls for completion by Aug. 1.

Commissioner Sharon Bolos commented that this project helps address some of the safety concerns relative to students and the roadway.

Also approved during Tuesday’s meeting was a resolution adopting the county’s pre-disaster mitigation plan. The five-year plan includes goals, strategies and actions to “reduce long-term risk,” according to Weber County Emergency Manager Lisa Schwartz Gosline.

Gosline noted that the plan would be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which requires it for consideration of grants and assistance related to mitigation.

The commission also approved amended contracts by and between Weber County and Roy City Fire & Rescue, as well as Weber Fire District, to provide countywide paramedic services.

Finally, there was a first reading of an ordinance amending the fee schedule for residential solid waste collection/disposal services in the Uintah Highlands and unincorporated western Weber County, accounting for contractual increases.

Weber County Community Development Director Sean Wilkinson noted that some fees actually would be reduced as a result of the amendment, including residents with one container seeing slight decreases in their quarterly charge.
