Republicans to hold special election nominating Weber County assessor replacement
The Weber County Republican Party will hold a Central Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Southwest Branch of the Weber County Library, 2039 W. 4000 South in Roy, to conduct a special election to nominate a candidate to fill the Weber County assessor vacancy.
Previous Assessor John Ulibarri, who had served the county since 2011, officially resigned Jan. 3 to accept a position with the Utah Association of Counties, a statewide organization providing an array of services to county officials. During the Dec. 31 meeting of the Weber County Commission, Commissioners Sharon Bolos, Gage Froerer and Jim Harvey praised the work Ulibarri did during his time with the county.
The Weber Couty GOP has 30 days after receiving notification of Ulibarri’s resignation to nominate a replacement. In the meantime, Chief Deputy Assessor DeeDee Kimber will manage the county assessor’s office.
So far, two candidates have emerged to complete Ulibarri’s term, running through 2026 — Kimber and Jared Preisler, chief appraiser at the Layton-based firm DataMaster and a certified residential appraiser for North Ogden’s J. Leland & Co.
The deadline for candidate filings is 11:59 p.m. Thursday; prospective candidates must be registered Republicans and licensed appraisers living in Weber County. For more information, go to https://www.webergop.org/.
“We invite anyone interested to run for this important position in our county and wish them success,” a news release from the Weber GOP stated. Questions and comments, it continued, should be directed to Party Chair Jackson Wing by calling 801-678-5638 or emailing webercountygop@gmail.com.
Thirty minutes before the Jan. 23 meeting begins, the Weber County GOP will hold a meet-and-greet with candidates.
