Weber County Commission appoints new chair, approves fair entertainment
OGDEN — The Weber County Commission assigned new leadership roles during its weekly meeting Tuesday, selecting Sharon Bolos as chair for the year and Gage Froerer as vice chair.
Before the roll call vote, Commissioner Jim Harvey — who promptly swapped seats with Bolos after the appointment was formally approved — expressed his belief that the chairperson position should be regularly rotated.
Bolos began her service on the Weber County Commission in 2023 after having previously served as West Haven’s mayor. The North Ogden native also worked for several years as an accountant. Her late grandfather, Jack Arrington, served as a state representative for two decades.
Several contracts related to entertainment, features and conveniences for the 2025 Weber County Fair — occurring Aug. 6-9 at the Golden Spike Event Center/Weber County Fairgrounds — also were approved during the meeting.
Agreements between the county and the Backcountry Horsemen of Utah (parking), Matt Drake (emcee services), Animal Cracker Conspiracy (roaming performances), Great Basin Antique Farm Machinery (equipment display), Wooden Creations (wood carving demonstrations), Bullfighters Only (bullfights), Broken Heart Rodeo Co. (rodeo), Cowtown USA (petting zoo), Stirrin’ Dirt Racing (demolition derby), TSE Entertainment/Tyler Braden (musical performance) and Fuel Marketing (media services) were approved.
Harvey and Froerer both praised the work that has been done to prepare for the county fair eight months before the event.
While no specific action was taken on the matter, there was a discussion about DeeDee Kimber’s designation as the person responsible for discharging the duties of the Weber County assessor on a temporary basis, effective Jan. 3.
The county’s prior assessor, John Ulibarri, stepped down from the role earlier this month. Republicans have 30 days following the receipt of Ulibarri’s vacancy notification to present a candidate to fill the position through 2026.
The commission tabled action on the appointment of trustees to the board of the Ogden Valley Park Service Area and the Powder Mountain Water & Sewer Improvement District, respectively. Froerer and Harvey stated that they needed more time to do their due diligence on candidates.
Meanwhile, Harvey was reappointed to the Weber Mosquito Abatement District board of trustees and a new trustee was also appointed to the board of the Green Hills Water & Sewer Improvement District.
There also were a number of approved action items related to the new Weber/Morgan Children’s Justice Center, including contracts for internet service, interview room cameras, audio/visual equipment and a door access system.
Finally, Lauren Thomas of the county attorney’s office was honored with a “stall of fame” designation.
