Weber County Commission approves funding requests for planned transportation projects

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission approved a number of items during meetings held Tuesday and also last week on Election Day.

Among the approved items from Tuesday’s meeting were funding requests through the Weber County Local Transportation Funds Program for 17 priority transportation projects around the county as recommended via the Weber Area Council of Governments.

Project costs will total more than $59 million, with a total combined funding request by county municipalities of just over $46 million after local matching funds and other funding contributions.

Headlining the priority list in terms of total funds requested was the planned widening of 1200 West in Marriott-Slaterville from 400 North to 700 South at nearly $7.5 million, including a recommended $3.7 million in third-quarter sales tax funds.

Also approved were contracts between the county and Wall Consulting Group, Avenue Consultants and Meridian Engineering for right-of-way acquisition services, as well as an amendment to a contract with Ogden Nordic allowing the erection of a maintenance/storage structure at North Fork Park and a change order on a contract with Randy Marriott Construction for the Eden Acres storm drain outfall.

Requests from Weber County Community Development Department to declare two small land parcels as surplus property were approved as well.

Warrants totaling $1.9 million, purchase orders totaling approximately $191,000, business licenses and a number of tax abatements also were among approved items.

During the previous commission meeting, contracts between the county and multiple organizations to host events at the Golden Spike Event Center were approved.

Those events included the the RMPRA Winter Series rodeo, Rough Stock Practice, Bull Wars and the American Chariot Racing Association’s regular season.

Moreover, a letter of intent by and between the county and Visit Ogden to host the 2026 World Men’s Curling Championship was approved.

Multijurisdictional building inspection agreements between the county and Ogden, Riverdale and Marriott-Slaterville cities, respectively, also were approved.

Other approved items included a contract by/between the county and Asphalt Construction & Excavating for asphalt repair on Patio Springs Drive in Eden and changes to the development agreement related to a rezone of the Winston Park development, located at approximately 3300 S. 3900 West.

Warrants in the amount of $2.2 million and purchase orders totaling roughly $232,000 also were approved.
