OGDEN — The Weber County Commission held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, during which the county’s final operating and capital budget for 2025 was approved.

Prior to the approval, Weber County Comptroller Scott Parke presented some of the changes that have been made since the tentative budget was introduced in the fall.

Among them was the addition of a school security chief position at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, in compliance with Utah House Bill 84, or the School Safety Amendments. An additional $45,000 also was allotted to the crime scene investigation division for overtime pay.

Meanwhile, a medical and mental health facility design project at the county jail saw an injection of an additional $800,000. Parke also clarified that a radio report indicating that $30 million had been appropriated for construction of the facility at the county jail was incorrect.

Although the facility is listed as a capital project with a budget request at the county, no funding has been appropriated to that end. Rather, its design has been approved by the county, which eventually will accept bids for construction.

Other changes include an additional $1.2 million cost share with the Utah Department of Transportation for improvements to the intersection at 12th Street/1200 South and 3500 West via Proposition 1 road improvement funds.

Finally, the planned purchase of two dump trucks as part of a regular rotation has been put on hold as the county waits to see which services the newly incorporated Ogden Valley will be contracting from it.

The county is slated to spend more than $317 million in 2025, approximately 70% of which is for employee compensation.

Also adopted during Tuesday’s meeting was the plan for the Nordic Village Community Reinvestment Project Area, as approved by the Weber County Community Reinvestment Agency.

The 512-acre project area is located in the general vicinity of 3567 E. Nordic Valley Road, where an expansion of the Nordic Valley ski resort to include roughly 56,000 square feet of commercial building space, 428 condo units, 159 chalets, 50 employee housing units and 230 hotel rooms is slated for development.

Contracts by and between the county and Stirrin’ Dirt Racing to hold the 2025 May Mania Demolition Derby and 2025 Halloween Havoc Demolition Derby events at the Golden Spike Event Center also were approved.

Similarly, a contract by and between the county and Turn Pro Jackpots to hold the 2025 Turn Pro Barrel Jackpots event at the venue was among the approved consent items.

Starting at $4.32/week.
