Justin Anderson, who is currently working as the city engineer and public services deputy director for Ogden City, was appointed to become the public services director, the city announced Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023. He will officially take over the position from Jay Lowder in January.

OGDEN — A familiar face may soon be taking on a new role in the Ogden City government as a longtime public servant retires.

On Wednesday, the city announced that Justin Anderson has been appointed to become the new public services director, as Jay Lowder — who has held the position for 14 years — is set to retire.

The appointment will go before the Ogden City Council during its Dec. 12 meeting for advice, consent and finalization.

Anderson, who has been with the city since 2008 and is currently working as the city engineer and public services deputy director for Ogden City, told the Standard-Examiner he is excited for the opportunity.

“I’ll be replacing Jay Lowder who’s been the public services director for 14 years and he’s done an outstanding job,” Anderson said. “I’m going to be looking to continue the great things he’s done and, also, look to try to implement some of my own ideas to be able to improve and even take things to a better place if possible.”

He said some of his goals in the new position include continuing to upgrade infrastructure throughout the city and elevating department employees.

Lowder is set to retire Jan. 14, 2024.
