SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Arts Academy system is growing.

Last week, ground was broken on the the charter school’s fourth campus — an elementary school, coined the South Campus — just off the newly completed West Davis Highway on South 2400 West.

South Campus Principal Michele Parry told the Standard-Examiner that the Syracuse Arts Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with three existing campuses — two for the elementary level and one junior high — serving K-9 students.

“We’e just seen the need in the area to build a third elementary,” she said.

The new campus will serve an anticipated 600-700 students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

“We’ve had students, to get into a charter, sometimes they have to wait to get in,” Parry said. “To be able to have that many new openings in a school is just such a great opportunity to get in.”

She said the new campus will be in line with the rest of the Syracuse Arts Academy schools

“We’ll be consistent with the charter that was established for all of the schools, in that it’s got a really unique curriculum of integrating the Utah state core standards with the arts,” she said. “Kids are learning these core standards through the arts integration.”

Parry said all of the campuses have a distinction and the South Campus will be no different.

“This new South Campus, we are putting in a turf field to conserve water,” she said. “We’ve also planned for some advanced tech spaces, a maker’s space room. We’re looking to be Apple certified — that will be having all of our teachers go through a certification process with Apple and to be able to have all of those technology tools for our students to learn the core.”

She said the fourth campus will be a boost to the Syracuse Arts Academy system.

“The schools have always been full,” she said. “It will help in that it’s going to give more kids an opportunity to participate in the school.”

The Syracuse Arts Academy South Campus is set to open for the 2025 school year.
