PLEASANT VIEW — Though Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt in Pleasant View began dishing out treats June 28, the community is being invited to celebrate the franchise’s expansion over the holiday weekend.

According to a press release, the new store — located at 360 W. 2650 North in Pleasant View — will hold a three-day grand opening event starting Saturday and running through Monday. Festivities will include “free giveaways including t-shirts, Menchie’s merchandise, family-friendly activities and free servings of its best-in-class frozen yogurt.”

According to the Menchie’s website, the franchise includes more than 540 locations across the country and throughout the world, including locations in Canada, Puerto Rico, England, South Africa, Kuwait, Bahrain, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Guatemala, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, China and Japan.

“The new self-serve store offers an unparalleled experience that is welcoming, fun and interactive, enjoyable music and indoor/outdoor seating areas where friends and family gather,” the release said. “Guests can choose from a variety of rotating yogurt flavors and delicious toppings for unlimited combinations, ensuring happiness in every cup. Menchie’s Peak View Plaza also offers frozen yogurt cakes, a low-calorie option for fans looking to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and parties with their favorite frozen yogurt brand. Cakes are customizable, and guests can choose their favorite flavors and toppings for the ultimate party dessert.”

Franchisee Rory Rich, who runs the store, isn’t new to Menchie’s. Rich also has run the franchise’s location in downtown Ogden for several years.

“We’ve been amazed at the growth in northern Utah,” Rich told the Standard-Examiner in an email. “We live in Pleasant View, and you can’t miss the expansion of homes and businesses in the area. We were super excited to have the opportunity to be involved in the first major retail expansion in our area since we moved here. We started our Menchie’s journey 8 years ago with the intention of bringing the brand to northern Utah, and we’re seeing that expand which makes us very happy.”

He added that it has been a positive journey running the stores.

“We’re super grateful for the success we’ve had at our Ogden store,” he said. The community has supported us like we never expected. We also love our partnerships with some awesome organizations in the area like United Way, Ogden Nature Center, and schools. The success we’ve had in Ogden has directly lead to our ability to open this second location, and as I said, we’re really excited about expanding such a great brand in our area. We embrace the Menchie’s mission of We Make You Smile, and that is our #1 goal.”

Events during the grand opening weekend include:

• Saturday (3-8 p.m.) — One free 8-ounce cup of frozen yogurt for each guest, T-shirts for the first 50 guests and an appearance by Menchie, the company mascot.
• Sunday (3 p.m.) — Free color-in T-shirts for the first 50 guests and free waffle bowls all day.
• Monday (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) — Fundraiser for United Way of Northern Utah with 50% of sales to be donated.
