You once again have the opportunity to give Historic 25th Street your stamp of approval.
For the second year in a row, Ogden’s Historic 25th Street is among 20 nominees in USA Today’s Best Main Street contest as part of its annual 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards for 2025.
“In 1869, Union Station opened in Ogden, Utah, creating the terminus of what would become historic 25th Street,” the city’s contest page description reads. “Today, the stretch of road welcomes more than a million visitors each year, who come for the art galleries, restaurants, shopping, and historic attractions.”
This marks the second year in a row the city has been nominated. In 2024, the city took third place in voting.
Visit Ogden Director of Marketing and Communications Taylor Hartman told the Standard-Examiner on Monday the organization is excited to see Ogden receive a nomination once again.
“It’s no coincidence — 25th Street is an incredibly special place,” he said. “It’s special within Utah and it’s also special within the entire United States for its history and its current vibrancy.”
He said even a third-place finish last year brought a boost to the city, both within and outside Ogden’s boundaries.
“It definitely brought a surge in community pride and it’s something we can brag about when we’re marketing Ogden to visitors from out of state,” he said. “Being in the top three nationally of anything is something that we should really be proud about, and it just showcases what 25th Street is to this community. It’s a hub. It’s a place where people gather not only for events but for daily life. It’s a gathering space. It’s so much more than a simple four blocks.”
Hartman said contests like this and their results do tend to bring eyes to the highlighted communities.
“As a marketer, focusing on positioning is very important,” he said. “Being first at something allows us to stay in people’s minds. It makes them curious about who we are and what makes us No. 1.”
As of Monday afternoon, Ogden was in fourth place behind Grapevine, Texas; Emporia, Kansas; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Ogden is the only city in Utah nominated this year.
Ogden has fared well in other USA Today 10Best contests in the past. In 2016, Ogden took fifth in the Best Main Street contest. The city has also been nominated in the Best Ski Town contest twice, taking fifth in 2019 and being named runner-up in 2023.
Voting for the Best Main Street contest is open through April 7 with winners being announced April 16.
