Weber County Commission appoints interim assessor
OGDEN — Following the resignation earlier this month of John Ulibarri, an interim county assessor was appointed Tuesday during the Weber County Commission’s weekly meeting.
Jared Preisler was officially tapped for the position after receiving his nomination through the central committee of the local GOP, which held a special election on Jan. 23. Preisler has worked as chief appraiser at the Layton-based firm DataMaster and was also a certified residential appraiser for North Ogden’s J. Leland & Co.
He’ll manage the Weber County Assessor’s Office through the next general election, at which point voters will determine a permanent replacement. Chief Deputy Assessor DeeDee Kimber had been managing the assessor’s office temporarily dating back to Ulibarri’s Jan. 3 resignation.
“I’m excited to get started and to fill some big shoes,” Preisler said Tuesday. “I’m excited to work with the office staff and to continue the progress that John has been working on.”
Among other items the commission approved Tuesday was the final reading of an ordinance amending the fee schedule for residential solid waste collection and disposal services in the Uintah Highlands and unincorporated western Weber County to account for contractual annual increases from Republic Services. While certain fees are seeing an uptick, the county will actually reduce its monthly administrative fee from $2 to $1.50.
Contracts by and between the county and both North View Fire District and Ogden City Fire Rescue for countywide paramedic services received approval from the commission. This followed the approval of agreements with Roy City Fire & Rescue and Weber Fire District last week.
The county is currently undergoing a phased expansion of its paramedic system to address response-time gaps and to account for growth in northwestern Weber County. That system will also be undergoing a future audit/study to determine its efficacy.
Amendments to an interlocal agreement between the county and Ogden City for the Airport Community Reinvestment Project Area were also approved. The county’s payment to Ogden City will be reduced from 90% to 75% of the tax increment generated by the county’s local levy within the project area. A $17 million cap on total payment will also be instituted.
Other actions taken by the commission on Tuesday include the approval of a contract by and between the county and Summit Food Service to provide meals and commissary services for inmates at the Weber County Jail, approval of a contract with Wheeler CAT for maintenance service on Weber County Transfer Station equipment, and the appointment of Alicia Martinez, Frank Brown, Tiffany Bears and Gina Buttars to the Weber-Morgan Board of Health.
Finally, while no action was taken on the issue, the commission discussed during a public hearing the potential conveyance of a property near 3150 North and Mountain Road to North Ogden City for the development of a public park.
