OGDEN — The corridors at Union Station will buzz with the sounds of commerce next month as an Ogden-area wintertime tradition returns to the historic rail hub.

Ogden Downtown Alliance has officially announced the return of the annual Winter Market, presented by Farmers Market Ogden, throughout February. The free-admission event kicks off Saturday and will run every Saturday thereafter through the end of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A leaner version of the Summer Market on 25th Street, Ogden Downtown Alliance described the event as “a cozy indoor shopping experience to liven the quieter winter season and bring the community together to support local food producers.”

Attendees can expect to find everything from baked breads and pastries to farm-fresh eggs, root vegetables, preserves, handcrafted soaps, uniquely-made woodcrafts and more at the market. Chad Midgley, a regular vendor at Farmers Market Ogden and Winter Market participant, said he’s looking forward to showcasing that produce can be grown in the Beehive State, even when it’s cold out.

“Local, huge, super-sweet apples, my winter-storage pears, indoor-grown cherry tomatoes,” Midgley said, via email. “I grow citrus inside compost-heated, hobbit-hole greenhouses in downtown Ogden at my farm and have about a dozen huge grapefruit ready.”

Farmers Market Ogden is an authorized EBT/SNAP retailer and will be offering participants an opportunity to make EBT exchanges at Winter Market by visiting the information booth.

Additionally, live musical performances inside the Browning Theater will contribute to the market’s fun, family-friendly atmosphere. Meanwhile, free community yoga classes will also be offered upstairs in the station’s Wattis Dumke Room (Saturday and Feb. 8) and inside Gallery 51 (Feb. 15 and Feb. 22) from 10 to 11 a.m.

“We’re excited to welcome back vendors our community has come to know and love, while also introducing a few new faces to the lineup,” Meg Beasterfield, Farmers Market and Events Manager at Ogden Downtown Alliance, said in a release. “We’ve worked hard in the offseason to curate a winter market with great variety and fresh local finds that will keep folks coming back for more each week.”
