- Originally slated to open in 2022, an Amazon distribution center in Marriott-Slaterville — picture Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025 — has faced years of delays in opening. However, permits have now been pulled to finish the project’s interior for a full opening, but Amazon officials still haven’t given a firm opening timeline as of yet.
MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — A partially-finished Amazon distribution center that has been delayed in opening fully is now making its way towards the finish line again, though a firm opening timeline remains elusive.
Marriott-Slaterville City Administrator/Attorney Bill Morris confirmed to the Standard-Examiner on Monday that Amazon has taken out permits to finish an Amazon distribution center that’s been under construction since 2021.
“It will be good to get it online and see those new jobs created for the community,” he said. “It’s going to provide, maybe, up to 600 jobs and also help those that are looking to get their packages a little quicker and more efficiently. More people today are relying on delivery services to provide their shopping needs, and this is going to help with that.”
The 185,000-square-foot warehouse complex rose above the construction site years ago and was slated to open in 2022, but has experienced delays due to supply-chain issues. In 2023, the Standard-Examiner reported that the opening could be pushed out as far as 2026 and that the company was seeing several delays to other projects.
However, despite not serving its main distribution function in the interim, Amazon Regional PR Specialist Nissa LaPoint told the Standard-Examiner in an emailed statement last week that the building has served some functions for the company.
“We’ve used the Marriott-Slaterville facility as an equipment hub to support our operations across the country,” she said. “This site has also remained in our plans to launch as a delivery station.”
LaPoint said work is “ongoing” but didn’t give an exact timeframe as to when the building will open.
Morris said while the city hasn’t been affiliated with the project beyond its usual permitting obligations, there have been many inquiries to his office about jobs.
“People have been interested to work,” he said. “We’ve had people walk in our office looking for a job over there.”
Morris said he, too, was unsure of a projected opening date for the distribution center.
