OGDEN — The League of Women Voters of Weber County is looking to make sure the public is as informed about area candidates as possible.

The group’s president, Terri McCulloch, told the Standard-Examiner they will be hosting a Civic Engagement Expo Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. at James Madison Elementary in Ogden.

“We haven’t hosted anything exactly like this,” she said in an email. “The Weber League of Women Voters does participate in community events, but we have not been in charge of them. We are adamant about raising awareness in this pivotal year of elections. Saying ‘my vote doesn’t count’ just can’t go on and we hope that we can get citizens excited.”

She added that this will be a family-centric event.

“We plan on having games that focus on things associated with the government and will have prizes,” she said. “We have also invited community groups to set up a table and help us in this endeavor. Candidates who are not canvassing are planning to come and also participate. We will have a couple of food trucks and music. It is open to the public and hopefully, families will come and support our right to have our voices heard.”
