WEST HAVEN — One person was killed by Weber County Sheriff’s deputies who had responded to a domestic incident in West Haven City on Sunday.

According to a press release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were summoned to a disturbance at 2265 S. 1100 West in West Haven City where a complaint had been reported to dispatch that a male and female had been arguing and that the male had allegedly destroyed property.

“Deputies arrived and found that the male had gone back into the apartment where the female was still located,” the release said. “The male had barricaded the door. While the deputies attempted contact at the door they heard a disturbance from inside. Concerned for the safety of the female, deputies forced entry into the apartment. The male brandished a knife and began to advance on the deputies, holding the knife. Three deputies fired rounds at the male, resulting in his death. The female was unharmed.”

The release states the female suffered no further injury as she was removed from the apartment and nobody else was harmed.

“The Weber County Attorney’s Office activated its critical incident protocol, and their investigators are currently on scene conducting an investigation into the incident,” the release said. “The three deputies who discharged their weapons have been placed on leave pending the investigation, in accordance with county policy and standard practice in any officer-involved shooting.”

The press release further added that no new information will be released until the investigation has concluded.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasize the availability of resources for anyone in a dangerous domestic relationship,” the release said. “We are grateful that no one else was injured due to the quick actions of our deputies.”
