State Route 39 through Ogden Canyon was closed in both directions for some time following a crash Tuesday evening.

According to a post by the Weber County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook, a dump truck rolled over in the canyon. The driver reportedly had no injuries.

Lt. Colby Ryan of the sheriff’s office told the Standard-Examiner on Wednesday that traffic was allowed through the canyon around 8 p.m. and that the Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. A call to the Weber/Morgan County branch of the UHP for further details was not returned by press time.

Tuesday’s crash marked the second incident this month involving a large vehicle that closed the canyon. On July 6, Lifetime Products CEO Richard Hendrickson and his daughter Sally were killed and three other family members were injured when a bulldozer being carried by a tow truck came loose and fell on their vehicle. In the wake of this accident, a petition began circulating calling for additional restrictions on large vehicles in the canyon. On Tuesday evening, the petition was nearing 5,000 signatures. Several comments on the Facebook post about Tuesday’s rollover also called for restrictions on large vehicles traversing the canyon.

Starting at $4.32/week.
