The Weber County Republican Women will hold their final meeting of 2024 on Monday, Dec. 9.

OGDEN — After delaying the proceedings by one week in observance of the Veterans Day holiday last month, the Weber County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting as regularly scheduled in December.

This month’s meeting will take place at noon on Monday, Dec. 9 at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, located at 1387 Depot Drive in Ogden.

Jennie Taylor of the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, or MBTF, is slated to be the guest speaker for the meeting. Lunch will also be provided to attendees.

Taylor is the Gold Star widow of Utah Army National Guard Major Brent Taylor, for whom the foundation is named. Maj. Taylor was killed in action while on his fourth combat deployment in Afghanistan in November 2018. Prior to his death, Taylor had also served as mayor of North Ogden.

Key programs of the MBTF include the 9/11 Project, Leadership Legacy Scholarships at regional universities and high schools, the annual flight of the “The Major” — an American flag measuring 78 feet by 150 feet — in North Ogden’s Coldwater Canyon, flag missions, parades, displays and more.

“The Major” suffered severe weather damage during its latest flight in November and will no longer be flown in that manner. The flag will continue to be displayed at community events while a new flag will be purchased and hung over Coldwater Canyon next year.

Meanwhile, Weber County Republican Women President Debbie Williams told the Standard-Examiner that the group is currently seeking to expand its membership. She added that the group will be focused on legislation, including some “more controversial issues” in 2025.

“Because it isn’t an election year, we’ll be able to delve more into legislation as opposed to candidates,” Williams said. “We really like to educate people on what’s happening in the community.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
