Ogden man arrested in connection with Jan 6 Capitol riot

WASHINGTON, D.C. — An Ogden man was arrested Monday in relation to his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Columbia announced.

According to the news release, Hal Ray Huddleston, 66, faces a felony charge of obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder.

Huddleston is also accused of committing multiple misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in the Capitol building and grounds and parading, picketing and demonstrating in a Capitol building.

Huddleston was arrested in Utah and will make his initial court appearance in the District of Utah, per the release.

Court documents state that the FBI received a tip containing a screenshot of a Jan. 7, 2021, Facebook post belonging to a user named “Hal Ray Huddleston” that stated the following:

“An update to my being in DC. You may have already heard about the Capital [sic] being stormed today, I’ve been to the DC only once in my life and that was today to Storm the Capital, break stuff, fight with the police and be shot with tear gas. I spent the day doing Patriot s**t and standing up for my President & country. It was a good day.”

Meta records and cellphone records obtained through federal search warrants were used to identify Huddleston who, as of 2021, was employed at Hill Air Force Base’s Defense Logistics Agency as a contractor, per court documents.

Videos from “several sources” also appeared to show Huddleston in and around the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents.

Huddleston is accused in court documents of entering the Capitol building and also joining “at least one violent confrontation between rioters and officers.”

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, according to the news release.

The FBI’s Salt Lake City and Washington Field Offices were listed as investigating agencies, with assistance having been provided by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

It was noted that over 1,488 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to storming the U.S. Capitol, “including nearly 550 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.”
