OGDEN — Over 70 volunteer health care workers will be providing health screenings for the community during Seager Memorial Clinic’s annual Health Screening Day.

The free event will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ogden-Weber Technical College’s health technology building, 200 N. Washington Blvd. in Ogden.

Jerika Mays, who serves as executive director at Seager Memorial Clinic, said in a press release that no appointment or paperwork is necessary.

“With the help of over 70 volunteers, we will be providing health screenings for our community, including no out-of-pocket cost mammograms, pap smears, screening blood work, skin cancer screenings, immunizations, dental cleanings for the first 30 patients, community resource tables and more,” Mays said. “Plus, we will have free tacos, rice and beans for the first 100 people, and fun give-a-ways.”

Preventive health screenings can lead to early detection, Mays said. Because transportation can be a barrier for some people, the clinic has arranged two vans to pick up adults over the age of 18 at several locations.

Seager Memorial Clinic provides free, easy access medical, dental, vision and mental health care to the underserved.

The clinic was founded by local physician Dr. Floyd Seager and his wife, Dauna, in 1988 after the doctor witnessed a man collapse on the street in Ogden and rushed to his aid. Learning the man was homeless and didn’t have access to medical care prompted the couple to open the clinic in partnership with the Ogden Rescue Mission.

The clinic is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic is located in the basement of the Ogden Rescue Mission, 2775 Wall Ave. The eye clinic is located at 555 24th Street.
