Jesse, Bodie and Shelley Kearns go to Union Grill's new location at 315 24th Street in Ogden on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Shelley had Union Grill with her father at the old location, and her father recommended it to Jesse. "We went to the farmer's market and came on over," Jesse said.

OGDEN — The Union Grill has officially left Union Station and opened the doors of its new home on 24th Street and Grant Avenue.

After a quarter-century serving customers at Ogden’s historic train depot, the eatery’s name has taking on a new meaning, restaurant owner Kym Buttschardt said. It’s now the “union” between two important districts downtown — Historic 25th Street and The Junction.

“It was big to move after 25 years,” Buttschardt said. “We love our new space.”

The restaurant will have a grand opening sometime in September, but it’s still open for business in the historic Berthana building at 315 24th Street. The menu will still have old favorites, like pasta salad and salmon sandwiches. But a bigger space means room for change.

Buttschardt plans on adding a small plates menu for a quick snack before a movie or show. There will also be more specialty drinks and cocktails. The new location also has a large downstairs space for private events.

“We’ve already had an event downstairs — we had about 70 people in here (Thursday),” she said. “Our kitchen is getting the rhythm of the new space, our servers are getting the rhythm.”

As with the Union Station, the Union Grill plans to embrace the history of the Berthana building, too.

“It’s a completely different look and feel. It’s more of an art deco space,” Buttschardt said. “We’ve been digging into the history, and we plan on doing a call out — it’s fun to hear personal stories. Plenty of people roller-skated here.”
