Later this month, the ribbon is set to be cut on eight new charging stations at Ogden Union Station.
Ogden City Communications Director Mike McBride told the Standard-Examiner on Thursday that these charging stations have been long-planned.
“Rocky Mountain Power approached Ogden City about installing Level 3, rapid charging stations somewhere in Ogden more than a year ago,” he said. “Union Station was selected as a prime location because of quick access from anywhere downtown, as well as access to I-15 for commuters who are traveling through or past Ogden. Union Station was also a prime site because of access to an adequate power supply and parking. The project is fully funded by Rocky Mountain Power, with the location being supplied by Ogden City.”
While the charging stations have been installed, he said they aren’t set to be active until later this month. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the units is set for 10 a.m. on April 23. There will be a charge for use of the charging stations.
“They are level 3 chargers, which are the fastest charges on the market,” McBride said. “Commuters will be able to get a full charge in approximately 20 minutes. They work with all EV cars but depending on the make and model of the car, the vehicle owner will always supply their specific adapter as needed.”
He added that this isn’t the city’s only project involving adding EV charging stations at key municipal locations.
“Ogden also recently installed EV charging stations at the Ogden Municipal Building,” he said. “The installation at Union Station enhances the charging network in our area and will compliment the future EV charging station installations at both the Marshall White Center as well as the WonderBlock parking structure.”
McBride said the EV charging stations are a part of the ongoing effort to enhance the Union Station and downtown.
“The Union Station is poised to expand the campus footprint in the coming years and is a prime location as it it the heart of downtown Ogden,” he said. “Wall Avenue is one of the most travelled corridors in Ogden, and the Union Station is a convenient location for those commuters as well as those commuting on I-15 through the Wasatch Front.”
