KAYSVILLE — The Hope Box Theatre’s production of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” brings a classic women’s role to life on stage as well as lots of dancing and singing for the whole family to enjoy.

The show opens Nov. 6 and runs through Nov. 21 with evening performances at 7 p.m. Nov. 6, 7, 9 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21; matinee performance at 2 p.m. Nov. 21. The theater is at 1700 S. Frontage Road in Kaysville.

The show is double cast for some of the bigger roles, including Molly Brown, played by Sheri Gillies and Kristina Boeler.

“I always love to see the different things that different actors bring to their roles. You will want to come see both of the Molly Browns, because they are both amazing and bring something new to their roles,” said Brandon Stauffer, marketing director for the Hope Box Theatre.

The show is about Molly Brown and the struggles she goes through to get what she wants. “‘The Unsinkable Molly Brown’ is the rags to riches love story of Molly and Leadville Johnny Brown, owners of the richest mine in the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century,” according to a release about the show.

“Molly Brown is a strong female character in a time of what was a very male-driven society,” Stauffer said. Brown goes through a lot of changes and there are some serious themes, but there is also a great comedic side to the story, Stauffer said.

“There is great comedy and dancing. The choreography of the dance sequences is just really entertaining,” he said.

The show has some similarities to a popular movie of the same name that people will enjoy, Stauffer said.

“The show has a big cast and a big set with a story people can relate to,” Stauffer said. “We have been working very hard in our little theater to make this show with all the elements.”

The costume designing and the set design is big and daunting, but Stauffer said the results are amazing. “It’s a very technical show with many different parts to the set.”

Stauffer said the progression of the character is one of the best parts of the show. “It’s great to see a normal person travel down the path of life and do great things,” he said.

Alisha Hall is the director. She also has a starring role in “Jekyll & Hyde” at the Heritage Theater in Perry right now.

“As a lover of theater this is a show you want to see and see the work that has gone into it,” Stauffer said.
