OGDEN — The BYU Ballroom Dance Company will be performing at Weber State University on Saturday, Oct. 24, and if you think it’s just your typical ballroom dance routine, think again.

The performers will treat the audience to everything from gliding waltzes to playful swing dance, Latin dance, lifts, spins and modern contemporary rhythms.

“The performance is entertaining for all age levels and artistic sensibility,” said BYU Ballroom Dance Company artistic director Curt Holman. “The audience will be impressed with the theatrical artistry and will be surprised and excited with what they see.”

The performance, sponsored by the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. The 75-minute show is non-stop without intermission.

“The dances are phenomenal and the costumes are brilliant colors,” Holman said. “There will be 32 dancers, all of them BYU students.”

The BYU Ballroom Dance Company is recognized throughout the world, Holman said. The first Americans ever to win the prestigious British Formation Championships, a feat they have repeated many times since, the dancers have also competed in the World Formation Championships and have consistently earned top honors in the United States National Formation Championships.

“They are the current U.S. Formation champs right now,” Holman said. “For the past 50 or more years, the company has grown to become the highest quality ballroom dance company across the nation and even perhaps the world.”

This past summer the dance company performed in various cities around China: Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong, among others. They have also performed in Thailand, Vietnam and throughout Europe.

Tickets range from $10 to $20 and can be purchased at symphonyballet.org, at 638 E. 26th St. or by calling 801-399-9214.

Starting at $4.32/week.
