In a press release this week, Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music announced the lineup for the 17th annual Ogden Music Festival, set for May 30-June 1 at Fort Buenaventura in Ogden.
This year’s festivities will include Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, Cimafunk, John Craigie with The Coffis Brothers, Pokey LaFarge, AJ Lee & Blue Summit, Sister Sadie, New Dangerfield, East Nash Grass, Margo Cilker, The Fretless, Lone Piñon, Hot House West Swing Orchestra, Primera Linea, Mariachi Fuego and Theoretical Blonde.
“Tweeners” — local artists that play in between main acts — will be released at a later date.
OFOAM co-Director Reba Nissen told the Standard-Examiner on Thursday that a lot goes into building a lineup like this each year.
“A whole year of planning,” she said. “These artists are all nationally touring artists, so figuring out how to get on their schedule and have them get to Ogden is always tricky. We think that we’re on the way from everywhere, but we’re kind of out in the middle of nowhere, in a way, between markets. We work with their booking agents throughout the year and try to pin them down to come during our dates.”
She said the festival has proven popular over its two and a half decades of existence.
“We have a lot of folks that this is an annual thing for and we love it because they come to our festival and they reunite with people that they only see once per year at the Ogden Music Festival,” Nissen said. “We have people come from 22 states around the country and we’ve had some people from foreign countries come to the festival, so it does bring a lot of folks to Ogden because it’s a sweet little festival.”
Nissen said this “sweet little festival” averages around 3,500 attendees each year.
“It’s big enough to have these bigger acts, but also small enough to be relaxed and comfortable,” she said. “I’ve been to some festivals that are 20,000+ people and you can feel a little lost.”
