Brokaw: ‘The Groomsmen’ trilogy on Hallmark+ is about friendship
Hallmark+ is the latest incarnation of the Hallmark streaming channel Hallmark Movies Now. Hallmark+ not only includes the popular movies from the Hallmark channels but also adds original content to that channel. “The Groomsmen” trilogy is one of the new shows available on Hallmark+.
Because “The Wedding Veil” trilogies were so popular, the folks at Hallmark decided to follow those with a trilogy from the male perspective. “The Groomsmen First Look,” “The Groomsmen Second Chance” and “The Groomsmen Last Dance” are the films in this new trilogy, starring Tyler Hynes, B.J. Britt and Jonathan Bennett.
When the trio spoke recently to members of the media, they were excited to share their experience making the trilogy, which was filmed in Greece and Bulgaria all at the same time and later divided into the three separate films.
They filmed the three movies non-sequentially in beautiful settings. Humorously, they acknowledged they had to ask which movie they were filming on any certain day. It was quick work all done in 64 days.
The trilogy is about three best friends (as are “The Wedding Veil” trilogies).
Explained Bennett: “This actually came from my own experience, because I was a groomsman in so many of my friends’ weddings, and then I myself got married and had my own groomsmen.”
He wanted to tell the male side of the stories.
“Over the course of these movies,” Bennett said, “you’ll see three best friends and see them fall in love, fall out of love, find new love, and it’s about your group of people, your squad that gets you through all those big life moments.”
Hynes spoke about being part of the Hallmark stable.
“It seems like being at this channel, you have an opportunity to do something which I think is lovely, which provides a warmth and a focus on love, family, friendship, these kinds of staples. And I think finding interesting ways and different ways of telling those stories is part of the fun and an adventure to keep it exciting and try to reach as many people as possible.”
Like the three women in “The Wedding Veil” movies, Bennett acknowledged he had his own personal group of friends who would drop anything at the drop of a hat and do anything for him if he needed it.
“I think having that brotherhood is so important in life,” he stated. “I think it helps everyone grow, and there’s a certain level in your squad of being a group of friends where no matter what happens, I can text in my group chat, my brotherhood, my squad [and] I can say ‘Code Red’, and I know that eight guys will drop whatever it is they’re doing and go to wherever it is I say they need to go…”
That hardcore friendship is what is the backbone of the trilogy.
“The Groomsmen” trilogy has been described by the cast as romance and bromance. The three films weave together the stories of three best friends and entertain viewers with their stories and plenty of beautiful scenery.
The trio met at summer camp when they were kids and have been best friends ever since. The first episode, “The Groomsmen First Look,” has Pete (Britt) falling head over heels for a doctor. The problem is she lives in another country. Can a long-distance relationship work? And what about blending their families? His somewhat whacky mother and her elitist parents are like oil and water.
The second episode, “The Groomsmen Second Chance,” is about Danny (Bennett), who is in love with his business manager but does not want to lose their friendship so he keeps it to himself. His besties waffle between advising him to come clean or keep the secret. When all hope seems lost, love wins out.
And the final episode, “The Groomsmen Last Dance,” has Jackson (Hynes) traveling to Italy to look after his daughter when her mom is away for a month. Jackson has kept his heart locked up since the divorce, but there is a certain Italian woman who holds the key.
With beautiful locales and three best friends, viewers will enjoy this trilogy. These men will do anything for each other, as they maneuver through their love lives. Getting lost in the woods in a foreign country is just the beginning. There’s more to their adventures, including jumping off a cliff into the sea.
