Ogden Arts logoOGDEN — April’s First Friday Art Stroll is quickly approaching and will feature an exhibit highlighting a stark reality of the world.
In a press release from Ogden’s YCC Family Crisis Center, the group will use this week’s First Friday Art Stroll — set for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday — to premier an exhibit as part of the “What Were You Wearing?” campaign at the Monarch. Coinciding with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the exhibit will display clothing worn by sexual assault victims.
“Historically, within the community, friends and family members have asked survivors, ‘What were you wearing?’ inferring that if they had been dressed modestly, it wouldn’t have happened,” Melanie Thomas, sexual assault advocate and Crisis Response Team coordinator at YCC, said in the release. “This exhibit proves that this is not the case. Our advocates are here to help survivors along their healing journey. We are here to work with the community to uplift survivors, not to blame or shame.”
The release adds that the exhibit will be open throughout April.
Also new to the April Art Stroll, according to a press release from Ogden City Arts, is Lene’ Marie Chocolates, where patrons can paint a chocolate tree while enjoying truffles, chocolates and caramels.
