Hugh Bonneville narrates the new documentary series “The Secret Lives of Animals” on Apple TV+. This series takes a deep dive into 77 unique species in 24 countries. It took the filmmakers over three years to study the animals’ behaviors to bring them to viewers in a new, entertaining and educational way that makes it a good series to view for all members of the family.

From the time they are born, many of these animals face challenges that could spell trouble. Using their intelligence and adaptation skills, they manage to forge their lives under often harsh circumstances.

Rober Webb, executive producer of the series, stated: “‘The Secret Lives of Animals’ is a wonderful opportunity to showcase new and relatable animal stories for a family audience in a new and exciting way. Making television is all about finding the best way to tell a story to the widest audience, and there’s something in this series for everyone — young and old — and there’s so much to take away and tell your friends about. ‘The Secret Lives of Animals’ focuses on animals that have surprising solutions to familiar problems. It’s accessible, sharp, engaging and bingeable — you won’t want to stop watching!”

By utilizing modern technology, they were able to capture details that would normally be hard to see and often never seen before. As showrunner Matt Brandon says, “Working with new technology helps us capture … unprecedented insights into species’ behavior. For instance, lightweight drones can be easily carried into remote locations, can be launched in an instant and cause less disturbance while they provide new angles on the action; and high-speed (cameras) allow us to see a lizard walking on water in crystal-clear detail; a macro-motion-control unit meant we could follow army ants with tiny precision moves and capture angles that were otherwise impossible; using specialist cameras we were able to film in color even in extreme low-light camera technology to show wood mice placing ‘signposts’ as way-markers — something which has not been achieved before.”

There are fascinating stories to see, and they’re accompanied by interesting and fun narration by Bonneville.

Some of the many interesting scenes include the life of the fiddler crab, the jumping spider dance and the vocalization of turtles between each other inside their eggs to synchronize their hatchings.

From birth to raising their families to the time youngsters leave home to start their own lives to their growing old, these stories will delight and even entrance viewers. As they thrive and also deter predators, the animals provide compelling viewing for all ages. For animal lovers, this is a “must see” and a delight with the introduction of many species and behaviors not seen before in animal documentaries.

This 10-episode series is a window into the lives of these animals, and there is no doubt people will discover new and amazing insights into the animal world and nature itself. It is an inspirational series with many scenes that will capture the hearts of viewers.

Animals are remarkable and with many never-before-seen behavior finally captured on film, “The Secret Life of Animals” is a good way for families to learn about nature in a fun, educational and entertaining way.

The series streams on Apple TV+.
