Season Two of “Darby and Joan” is now available to watch on AcornTV.

After two years, the fun AcornTV series “Darby and Joan” returns to the delight of fans. Jack Darby (Bryan Brown) and Joan Kirkhope (Greta Scacchi) are back as the duo who seem to be a little more than just friends these days.

In the first season, Joan had come to Australia to find out exactly what happened to her deceased husband. She ran into Jack, literally, and the two joined forces to get to the bottom of the mystery. Jack, an ex-cop, managed to help with some of the details and together they cleared her husband’s name, and now he can rest in peace.

This season, has Jack and Joan on another quest to clear his own names. A while back, he was involved with a suspect and informer. His partner and informer were both killed. Not long after that, Jack quit the police force.

He is now intent on finding the woman who set up the meeting where the murders happened. She will be able to fill in the blanks and finally put an end to his long-lived nightmare.

In each episode, as the duo travel around the country in search of this missing woman, they encounter one thing after another. Either a nurse has been intentionally run off the road and they decide to get to the bottom of her attempted murder or Joan’s sister pops up (a couple of times in this season) — and wherever she is, trouble follows.

As Jack and Joan traverse the land with the goal of finding the missing woman, their interactions lead others to think they are a couple. He is referred to as a “silver fox” and she suddenly finds herself in a quandary after meeting a doctor and having a couple of dates with him.

Why does she feel this inevitable pull back to Jack when she keeps insisting they are just friends and associates?

Diesel, Jack’s dog, lends some cute moments to the series. After all, a dog is man’s — and woman’s — best friend.

Jack’s ex-wife and daughter still work for the police and manage to do whatever they can to help him clear his name from any suspected wrongdoing in the matter of the shooting. Their involvement puts them at risk, and even Joan gets warned to stay away from this investigation. But that doesn’t stop her. She is in this to the end. No fear.

Joan knows there are dangers and she also knows Jack’s involvement in any crime is nil. He is an upright and honorable man and she can tell he was a brilliant cop who did nothing inappropriate. Jack is a caring man and Joan knows that deep in her heart.

This season, Joan helps Jack get closure on his past like he helped her in the first season. Their teamwork is unmatched.

Between Joan and Jack, their intelligence, intuition and cleverness always lands them on top. Their playfulness and cute banter add to the fun of the series.

Even though Brown had been acting for years, he first caught the attention of American audiences when he appeared in the TV miniseries “The Thorn Birds” in 1983, for which he was nominated for an Emmy. And Scacchi is a veteran actor who took home the Emmy in 1996 for her performance in “Rasputin.” Both Brown and Scacchi are proven talents in the entertainment industry, and together they make a great on-screen couple, even if they insist they are “just friends.”

Season Two of “Darby and Joan” premiered Monday, and subsequent episodes of the six-episode season come out through Jan. 27. They are all available to stream on Acorn TV, a division of AMC.

This is a fun series to binge in a two-night viewing. Grab some popcorn — or put a shrimp on the barbie, as the old Australian commercial advised — and indulge in some spectacular Australian scenery combined with two entertaining characters and a few mysteries that are eagerly attacked by the cute couple. “Darby and Joan” is a fun show, and at the end of this season there is a hint for a new season to come.

Starting at $4.32/week.
