“Happy’s Place,” starring Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman, premieres Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, on NBC.

Reba McEntire is back on TV along with her “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman. They recently spoke with a select group of media about their new series “Happy’s Place.”

Reba plays Bobbie, a woman who just inherited her father’s tavern named Happy’s Place. The caveat is her business partner is the half-sister she never knew.

“I love the sitcom genre,” the multitalented McEntire stated. “Out of all the things I get to do, this is my favorite because it’s camaraderie, it’s fun, you just get to go to work and play, and it’s creative.” She is also an executive producer on the show.

Peterman, who was recently on “Young Sheldon,” reminisced about the first sitcom with McEntire. When she was asked about their relationship, she said she couldn’t believe it’s been 20 years since they co-starred on “Reba.” “We’ve never really left each other. I mean, the show ended. We’ve been friends ever since. We’ve done other things together. I got to go on tour with her and open the show and do standup, and we vacation together. We hang out, and we just were waiting for another project so we could actually go to work together again.”

“We’ve been buddies,” McEntire chimed in. We’ve been co-workers. We’ve had so much fun.” She insists this cast is going to be as fun and as connected as the cast of “Reba.”

Explaining about her new character, McEntire said, “Bobbie’s a pretty intense character. She’s very devoted to the tavern and to her dad’s memory, and she wants everything to stay as it is. She works very hard, she’s got a wonderful team of people that she gets to work with, and they’re at the tavern.” Her husband is deceased and her daughter is deployed, so Bobbie must rely on and enjoy the folks at the tavern.

Not only are the folks on the show close and connected, McEntire insisted the actors will also be close and connected. “This is going to be our family away from our blood family, and we’re going to be having a wonderful time.”

Listening to her the joy and electricity she feels about the show comes through loud and clear.

McEntire is a country music legend and an actor. To be at the top of both genres is not an easy task. “My fans have always been very loyal,” she explained. And just as she recorded the theme song for “Reba,” McEntire is recording the theme song for “Happy’s Place.”

“Reba” ran from 2001-2007 for 125 episodes, and the star hopes this new series will be just as popular. After that show ended, McEntire was not off the screen as she was in the series “Malibu Country,” “Big Sky” and had a recurring role on “Young Sheldon” — plus, she appeared in other series and TV movies. Peterman has also been busy with roles in several shows and was a recurring role in “Young Sheldon.” The two actors have remained buddies for over 20 years and being able to work together again is a dream come true for both McEntire and Peterman.

“Happy’s Place” premieres Friday on NBC and will be available to stream the following day on Peacock.
