OGDEN — After the Halloween holiday on Oct. 31, Mexico’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) — during which families and friends gather to honor their deceased loved ones — will take place Nov. 1 and 2. Several events marking the occasion will be occurring in the Ogden area throughout October and November.

The Día de los Muertos en Ogden celebration, presented by Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music, will be returning to downtown for its fourth iteration Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. at the Ogden Amphitheater.

New additions to this year’s slate of activities include a pedestrian parade, Mexican banda music by a local group, an equestrian show by Ari Ramirez and her dancing horses, and a concert with East LA Chicano band Las Cafeteras. There also will be an ofrenda (an altar with pictures of the departed and offerings for them), student art, a car show with altars, a mercadito (market) full of local vendors, food and other live entertainment.

Performers include Mariachi Fuego de Utah, Tamborazo Diamante De Utah, Yunuen Carrillo, Nathan Carrillo, Tribalovedance, Ballet Folklórico Eck, Ben Lomond Bagpipers, Emma Almanza, Abraham Moreno, Xanti Cabrera and Ogden School District mariachi students.

“This event is for everyone. We want to share the beautiful Mexican tradition of Día de Los Muertos with the entire community, inviting everyone to remember their loved ones,” committee member Yesenia Salgado said of the event in a release.
