Weber/Davis cities celebrate Independence Day with parades, carnivals and fireworks

Independence Day is less than one week away and municipalities around Weber and northern Davis counties are slated to mark the occasion with pyrotechnics, parades, family activities and more.

While South Ogden, Washington Terrace, Pleasant View, West Haven, Clinton and Syracuse have already launched fireworks this summer as part of their annual city celebrations, area residents will have a myriad of options for viewing displays throughout the region in the coming weeks, particularly on the holiday itself.

Clearfield

Festivities in Clearfield on Independence Day week begin Monday with the painting of the Center Street Bridge (7:30 p.m.). There will be activities each day thereafter through Thursday, on which the Hometown Parade down State Street and up state Route 193 to Clearfield High School (9:30 a.m.) and the Founders Festival at Fisher Park will be held (6 p.m., fireworks at about 10 p.m.).

Farr West

Following events over the weekend, there will be a softball game between Weber Fire/Weber County Sheriff’s Office and Farr West City at Farr West Park on Wednesday (8:30 p.m.). That will be followed by a number of Freedom Festival events Thursday, including a parade (9:45 a.m.) and fireworks at Smith Family Park (10 p.m.)

Huntsville

There will be a number of events occurring Thursday at Huntsville Park, including a car show (8 a.m.), the Heroes of 1776 Parade (10 a.m.), games, waterslides, food and vendors (11 a.m.), a DJ and dancing (8 p.m.), fireworks (10 p.m.) and much more.

Kaysville

Movies will be shown beginning at dusk at Kaysville’s Barnes Park on Wednesday; food trucks also will be present (starting at 7 p.m.). On Thursday, the Main Street Parade (10 a.m.) will be held in the morning. Food trucks (5 p.m.) and fireworks (10 p.m.) will be at Barnes Park on Thursday evening.

Layton

Following the Voices of Liberty Patriotic Concert & Hometown Heroes Presentation at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater on Sunday (7 p.m.) and All-Star Baseball Softball Games at Ellison Park on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.), there will be a number of events in the city Thursday as part of Layton Liberty Days.

The Liberty Days Parade will start on Gentile Street, proceed to Fort Lane and then move down Wasatch Drive (beginning at 10:30 a.m.) There will be a live entertainment stage at Layton Commons Park on Thursday (noon to 7:30 p.m.) Meanwhile, the fireworks display will be at the same location later that evening (10 p.m.).

Marriott-Slaterville

There will be no fireworks display at Marriott-Slaterville; however, there will be a number of other activities occurring Thursday at Marriott Park. Those include a parade (10:30 a.m.), fish scramble (11:30 a.m.), water dodgeball tournament (11:45 a.m.), a raffle (1:30 p.m.) and more.

North Ogden

North Ogden’s Cherry Days will be taking place throughout the week of Independence Day. Following weekend events, there will be a car show Monday at North Ogden Park (5-8 p.m.), a Family Luau and free entertainment Tuesday at Barker Park (6-10 p.m.), the Cherry Days Parade on Washington Boulevard (10 a.m.) and a foam party at Wadman Park (1-3 p.m.) on Thursday, a carnival at North Ogden Park on Friday (noon to 9 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) plus a veritable bonanza of other events.

Cherry Days’ marketplace (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and the fireworks spectacular (10 p.m.) will be at North Ogden Park on Saturday. Organizers suggest being on hand at the park itself to guarantee a clear view of the pyrotechnics. The park also will host musical performances throughout the day on Friday and Saturday as part of the Sounds of Freedom concert.

Additionally, area resident Tim Billings once again has organized the Red, White and Boom fireworks display for Thursday at Bates Elementary (6-10 p.m.).

Ogden/Weber State University

The annual Lindquist Family Symphony Pops Concert and Fireworks will be held July 14 at WSU’s Ada Lindquist Plaza. The New American Philharmonic will provide a 60-minute concert (beginning at 9 p.m.), after which the fireworks display will be presented (10 p.m.). Plain City

There will be a number of events in Plain City during the Fourth of July week. On Wednesday, there will be a chicken chase (5:30 p.m.) and a free concert at Lee Olsen Park (7:30 p.m.). Thursday’s activities will include a parade moving from Fremont High School to the Plain City fire station (8:30 a.m.), food, product and game booths (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), a fireworks display (10 p.m.) and much more.

Riverdale

Riverdale’s Old Glory Days festivities will be taking place throughout the week. On Thursday, there will be a parade moving down 4400 South (9:30 a.m.), booths, entertainment, free inflatables and a car show at Riverdale Park (beginning at 10:30 a.m.), where there also will be evening vendors (6 p.m.), a free concert (8:45 p.m.) and a fireworks display (10 p.m.), as well as other activities.

West Point

The Party at the Point will emanate from Loy Blake Park on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a multitude of things to check out on the latter day, including the Grand Parade (8:30 a.m.), vendors booths (opening at 10 a.m.), stage entertainers (3 p.m.) free Creamies (6:45 p.m.), a magic show (7 p.m.), the fire works display (10 p.m.) and more.
