Lee Andrew Garner

May 30, 1940 – March 18, 2025
Lee Garner, our loving father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, and son passed away on March 18, 2025. Lee was born on May 30, 1940, in Ogden, Utah to Grant and Doris (Moulding) Garner. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1958 and went to Idaho State University.
He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a 2-year full-time mission in the Northern States Mission (later the Central States Mission) from 1960-1962. He served mainly in the Chicago, Illinois and Sioux City, Iowa areas where he also uniquely served as the Relief Society President on the Winnebago Indian Tribe Reservation. He also served his church lovingly in many callings and capacities over the years including the first Bishop of the Roy, Utah 30th Ward. His loving wisdom guided many to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Lee served in the United States Army starting in 1963 as a Field Communications NCOIC and later served in the Army and Air Force National Guards while employed in Civil Service for the United States Government in the Internal Revenue Service of the U.S. Treasury Department for 43 years.
Lee married his loving eternal companion, Shirley Frances (Moore) Garner, in the Los Angeles Temple on October 12, 1963. They eloped to the temple with both sets of parents while he was in Army Basic Training at Fort Ord, California. They were married for 56 years and raised a loving family of 6 children. Shirley preceded Lee in death on March 25, 2020.
He loved all sports and especially liked to play golf, volleyball and softball. He was a big BYU Cougars fan and loved cheering on his favorite team. He was an avid reader and loved adding to his coin collection. He also collected vintage model cars, especially his favorite 1958 Chevy Impala.
Lee was a wonderful father, husband and provider who worked tirelessly and selflessly to raise his beautiful family. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Doris (Moulding) Garner, his wife Shirley, and their son Bradley.
He is survived by his children Brett (Lynda) Garner, Bart (Stacy) Garner, Jennell Garner, Julianne Garner, and Jennifer Garner; his siblings Bruce (Jean) Garner, Roger (Deborah) Garner, Nancy (Don) Parker, Wendy (Walt) Hanks and Rick (Doris) Garner; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. His son Bradley Grant Garner passed away on August 18, 2005.
With tremendous gratitude and appreciation, we want to acknowledge and give a special thanks to his daughter and our sister, Jennifer, for her loving sacrifice and dedicated and tender care of our Dad in his final years. Jenny worked tirelessly around the clock to care for Dad, and we will be forever thankful for all she did. The family would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff that helped take care of Dad before his passing, especially hospice nurse Jamie with Canyon HomeCare & Hospice for helping Dad be comfortable and without pain until the end.
