William G. West

With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the life of William G. West, affectionately known as Bill. Born on October 12, 1932, in Ogden, UT, he passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of love, patience, and quiet strength.
Bill was a man of many talents and even more patience. He served in the Korean War before earning a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Psychology from Utah State University. He was a Budget Analyst at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1993.
But while work paid the bills, it was his role as a husband and father that truly defined him. Bill had the patience of a saint–he never lost his temper, cared for his kids when sick, and showed up for his family in every way that mattered. His devotion was never more evident than when he cared for his late son, Brian, through his battle with cancer–supporting him with unwavering love.
Bill was an incredibly devoted husband to his late wife, Lajuan. He supported her in almost everything she wanted to do, whether it was hosting frequent family dinners, taking family trips to Oregon, North Carolina, and Denmark, or embracing Lajuan’s insistence that all six kids take piano lessons. How he endured years of six kids practicing on three different pianos (often at the same time), we’ll never know.
Bill also agreed to let Lajuan get their sweet dog, Abby. He may have resisted at first, but it didn’t take long for Abby to become his loyal sidekick–especially at dinnertime, when Bill would casually slip her morsels of food, assuming no one was watching (they were).
In addition to his family, Bill found joy in fly fishing, bowling, coin and stamp collecting, and spending time at the family cabin. Even though his eyesight was impaired for many years, he could still somehow manage to beat you in ping pong, pool, and cards.
Bill was also a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings over the years, including Home Teacher, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, Elders Quorum President, and in the High Priest Presidency. He also dedicated 11 years of service at the Manor Care Nursing Home.
Bill’s family is incredibly grateful to his caregiver, Irma from Visiting Angels, and his hospice nurse, Amber, along with the entire hospice team, for the kindness and care they provided in his final days.
Bill is survived by his brother, Alan West; his children, Kim Bateman, Kathy Malone, Greg West, Kristen Allred, and Matt West; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, George West; his mother, Grace Pincock; his wife, Lajuan Bybee West; his son, Brian West; and his granddaughter, Kassidy Allred.
Bill’s life was filled with quiet acts of love, moments of humor, and an unshakable devotion to those he cared about. He will be missed, but if you really want to celebrate him, challenge a loved one to a game of ping pong or slip a little food to the family dog when no one’s looking.
Funeral services for Bill West will include a viewing on Saturday, March 22, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84404. A graveside service will follow at 12:45 p.m. at Hooper Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring and remembering his life.
