Val Spencer Berrett, 93, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, remaining active until his final day. Born on June 3, 1931, at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, he was the ninth of ten children born to Marlon and Stella Berrett.

A lifelong resident of Weber County, Val was a pillar of his community, renowned for his tireless work ethic and deep devotion to family and service. For 54 years, he dedicated himself to driving a school bus for the Weber School District. He also worked at Phillips 66 in North Ogden for 10 years to support his young family. On his farm, Val spent 53 years milking cows, caring for horses, and baling and hauling hay. His commitment to the local water system was evident through his 35 years on the canal board, upholding a legacy begun by his father, resulting in a combined total of 70 years of dedicated service. Additionally, Val served as Bishop of the North Ogden 4th Ward.

Val’s life was enriched by love and family. On November 16, 1948, he married Ruth Campbell, with whom he built a home and raised four children. Though their paths later diverged, Val’s heart remained open to new beginnings. On May 17, 1991, he married Julie Johnson Silver, embracing her seven children as his own and weaving together a larger, blended family bound by his warmth and steadfast care.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all nine of his siblings: Onal (Marion), Boyd (Viola), Wilbur (Doris), Roland, Lila (Everett), Pearl (Keith), Theo (Dale), LaRae (Dee), and Belva (Dick).

Val is survived by his wife, Julie Berrett; his children, Brent (JoAnn), Jan, Carilee (Gary), Brian, Heather Ashment, Tonya (Brian) Willoughby, Rachel (Ryan) Neil, Ron Silver, Ryan Silver, Rebecca Silver, and Kara (Ryan) Hill; 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy.

Friends and family are invited to honor Val’s remarkable life at a viewing on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing prior from 11:30 am to 12:30 p.m. at the North Ogden 20th Ward Building, 575 East 3100 North, North Ogden, Utah, followed by a grave dedication at Ben Lomond Cemetery, where Val will be laid to rest amid the land he loved.

Val’s life was a testament to hard work, service, and unwavering love for his family. His influence endures in the lives he touched, the land he tended, and the community he served so faithfully.
