Rex Lamar Johnson

Rex Lamar Johnson, lovingly known as RL, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Born on April 24, 1941, in Lake Shore, UT, RL was a witty, reliable, dedicated, and loyal man, known for his love of family and horses. He had an affinity for the art of welding, dedicating his professional life to civil service as a welder and fabricator at Hill Air Force Base before retiring in 2008.
RL lived a vibrant and fulfilling life. He was a jack of all trades and a cowboy in many ways, always ready with a clever retort, and often left people with a chuckle by saying, “You get what I’m saying.” His many hobbies, including Cutter Racing, Flat Track Racing, Barrel Racing, and Breeding & Raising Quarter Horses, brought him immense joy. His dedication and expertise in breeding bloodlines in horses were well recognized, and he, along with his beloved wife Judy, were the proud owners of JR Performance Horses LLC. Throughout his life, Rex lived in various places including Los Alamos, NM, Spanish Fork, Rush Valley, Tooele, Santaquin, Clover, and finally settled in Plain City, UT.
Rex is survived by his wife, Vivian Judy Baker Johnson, his children, Marty (Melanie) Johnson and Sandy (Ryan) Bywater, his siblings, John (Celestia) Johnson and Connie (Steve) VanGorder, and his ex-wife, Kay East Johnson. His life will be celebrated and remembered by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Bailey (Colson) McCord, Kelton (Tamyra) Bywater, Khoden Bywater, Rex McCoard, Vivian Bywater, Chris Johnson, Martin (Annilet) Johnson, Sallie (Mark) Johnson, Deven (Jordan) Johnson, Brittany Johnson, and Savannah (Nathan) Johnson, Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mae Johnson, and his siblings, Gerald Johnson and Cindy Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Plain City Cemetery, 4373 West 1975 North, Plain City, Utah, with a viewing prior, on Friday, March 14, 2025 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Plain City Stake Center, 4575 West 2125 North, Plain City, Utah.
