Karlene June Shupe DeVries

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Karlene June Shupe DeVries.
On April 21, 1945, Karlene was born to Wilbert Parley Shupe and June VanZweden Shupe in Ely, Nevada. She grew up in North Ogden alongside her brothers – Jim, Deni, and Scott. She had a wonderful childhood and cherished fond memories of riding horses and raising sheep with her father. Karlene attended Weber High School, where she met the love of her life, Norman DeVries. They built a beautiful life together in Plain City raising their three children – Natalie, Bart, and Jed. Karlene’s family was the heart of her world. She volunteered countless hours at their schools through PTA and room mother activities. She supported her children in every endeavor, attending their many sports events and activities with unwavering love and encouragement. Her every moment was spent caring for and thinking about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A woman of many talents and with an undeniable work ethic, Karlene found success in her careers with Home Interiors and Jafra. Later in life, she pursued her passion for hairstyling, completing barber school and building her own salon, Hairquarters, right next to her home so she could always be available for her children.
Karlene adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always willing to lend a helping hand and shower them with love. She had a special gift for seeing potential where others saw imperfections – whether in a piece of antique furniture or in life itself. She loved quilting, sewing, refinishing furniture, and searching for hidden treasures to transform into something beautiful. Karlene loved to be in the mountains. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and fishing with Norm in the boat.
She is survived by her children, Natalie (George), Bart, and Jed (Amy), along with her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman; her parents, Bill and June Shupe; and her sister, Margene.
Karlene’s legacy of love, dedication, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity touched many, and she will be deeply missed. Wouldn’t it be an amazing thing if the whole world had such a generous, caring, loving heart?
