H. Kent Bingham

OGDENâ€â€™Howard Kent Bingham, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, peacefully at his home, surrounded by family.

Kent was born July 25, 1938, in Ogden, a son of Angus Howard Bingham and Maxine Lucille Galt.

Kent resided in Clinton until 1947; Mendon until 1963; Ogden until 1976; South Ogden until 2019; and Washington Terrace, Utah, until his death in 2025.

He married Carole Joyce Richardson on August 2, 1963, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Kent was educated in Cache County, Utah, graduating from South Cache High School in 1956. He was awarded the Standard Oil Scholarship in 1956 through 4-H Clubs. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah in June 1960, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Kent was first in class of Civil Engineering (33 students) and third in College of Engineering (176 students). While attending Utah State University he was a member of Sigma Tau, the National Honor Society for Engineers, and also a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Kent was a strong supporter of education generally and made sure his children and grandchildren were financially supported throughout their schooling.

Kent grew up on a farm in Mendon, Utah and had worked various farming jobs as a young man, with his first job as egg collector. He began his engineering career at the Federal Aviation Administration before working for the U.S. Forest Service in the water and sanitation department, retiring after 45 years of service. Upon retirement he became a caretaker to his second grandchild and first granddaughter.

He was a member of the LDS Church and served as a ward clerk, finance clerk, and full-time genealogy missionary. He especially enjoyed temple work for the LDS Church with his wife, Carole, and was well known for his love of genealogy.

Surviving are his wife, Carole Joyce Richardson Bingham, Washington Terrace; two sons and one daughter, Mike (Teri) Bingham, South Ogden; Brian (Nicki) Bingham, Clinton; Kristine Bingham, Syracuse; six grandchildren, Francisco Negron, Boise, Idaho; Makenna Bingham, South Ogden; Khristofer Negron, Boise, Idaho; Kristian Bingham, El Salvador Santa Ana LDS Mission; Taegen Bingham, South Ogden; and Bodee Bingham, Clinton; and one sister, Shirley Ruth Huddleston, Mendota, California. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
