Ronald Howard Bitton

Jan 21, 2025

Ron (Pa) was born September 27, 1936, in Ogden, Utah to John Howard and Hazel Marie Sewell Bitton. He was raised in Wilson Lane and the family later moved to upper 24th Street in Ogden. While in Wilson Lane, he attended Wilson Lane Elementary, then Central Jr. High, and Ogden High School.

In his youth, Ron did lawn care at Larkin Cemetery. He then went to work for his uncle, Ray Sewell, who taught Ron the body and paint business. This was the beginning of a lifelong successful career.

Ron joined the Marines at 18. He served only 6 months due to a tumor in his arm. Because of his service, he attended Bethesda Hospital in Maryland and received treatment to remove the tumor; he then took a job at an AFB in Washington State where he painted planes.

When he returned home, he married Karin Downs, September 28, 1954. They had 2 children, Terry R. and Sheryl Marie. Karin passed away August 22, 1965.

Ron then married Shirley Ann Owen, May 7, 1966, in Ogden.

The couple was later sealed in the Ogden Temple in 1978. After their marriage, they made their home in Ogden and added 4 more children to their family. Chris, Lori, Alina, and Craig. They lived in Ogden, Roy, and then made their home in Taylor for 40 years.

Ron worked at Ogden Ford Sales in the body shop and then decided to open his own shop, “Ron’s Auto Body”. Ron had great knowledge and ability in the business and was called on often by other body shop owners to help them with problems, especially matching paint colors.

After selling his body shop on 27th and Grant, he opened up Bitton Auto Sales in inner city Ogden with a Buy Here – Pay Here concept. He was one of the first in Ogden to do so and was told by many it would not be successful. But with Ron’s ambition, it was very successful, with others following his ideas. Due to his compassionate and giving nature, he made friends quickly. Many of them became business associates, repeat customers, and lifelong friends.

Ron was a member of the LDS church. He worked with the youth in the scout program, as a primary teacher, then as a ward clerk to 5 different bishops. He served a mission with Ann to the church unemployment center.

Ron (Pa) had a quirky sense of humor. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, golf, and especially loved when grandkids and great- grandkids called him Pa.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dale (Mary), Wayne (Pat), Rick (Bonnie), sisters, Maxine (Lynn) Denkers and Joan Hoagland, and a granddaughter, Sady Ann Rogers.

Surviving, wife Ann, sons Terry Bitton, Chris (Jennifer) Bitton, Craig (Shae) Bitton, daughters, Sheryl (Jeff) Hosley, Lori (Jack, deceased) Lassetter, Alina (Scott, deceased) Crawford. 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
