Harold Bruce Roghaar

H. Bruce Roghaar passed away from heart failure Sunday morning surrounded by his loving family. He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and sought-after teacher and counselor.
Bruce was the son of Harold J. Roghaar and Genice Perkins Roghaar. Bruce married the love of his life, Deborah Pace, in 1981 in the Provo temple. Together they raised six wonderful children.
Bruce graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State University (BA), and Brigham Young University (MA and Ph.D.) He began his career as a seminary teacher for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Ben Lomond High School and Ogden High School. After completing his graduate studies, they moved their young family to Calgary, Canada where he taught at University of Calgary LDS Institute of Religion for three years. He returned to Utah and was an instructor at the Institute of Religion at Utah State University for sixteen years. He retired in 2010 after 33 years with the Church Education System.
From 1966 to 1968, Bruce served an LDS mission in Finland where he made lifelong friends. He loved the Finnish people. Bruce served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of his favorite callings was that of Bishop in a student ward at Utah State University.
Bruce was a founding member of Ogden, Utah’s Steinfels Climbing Club, and he was a mentor to many climbers in the Ogden area. His early routes in Ogden Canyon, City of Rocks, ID, and Zion National Park are classics today. Climbing took him to Europe, Canada and the Himalayas.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Deborah, his daughter, Andria (Andy) Rice, his sons, Michael Bruce (Anna), Timothy, Benjamin, Jacob, Pace and four grandchildren: Braxton, Carmen, Shirley and Hatch. He is also survived by his brother, Brad Roghaar, and sister Brenda Dussol.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. Roghaar and Genice Perkins Roghaar and a brother-in-law, Christopher Dussol.
A public open house for friends and family to visit the Roghaar family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at White Pine Funeral Services, 753 S 100 E, Logan, Utah, 84321. A funeral service for Bruce will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Providence 5th Ward Meeting House, 355 Canyon Road, Providence, Utah, 84332. The interment will be at the Providence City Cemetery.
