Diane Roberts Godfrey

Jan 1, 2025

November 16, 1947 — December 27, 2024

Diane Roberts Godfrey, 77, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 27, 2024, in her home.

Diane was born on November 16, 1947, in Preston, Idaho. She was blessed to be adopted by John Daniel and Ellen (Edgley) Roberts of Preston, Idaho and was later sealed to them in the Idaho Falls Temple. Diane grew up on a small family farm and graduated from Preston High School in 1966. She married her best friend, Lonnie Wayne Godfrey, on April 4, 1968, in the Logan Temple. After their honeymoon to Southern Utah, Lonnie reported for duty on April 12, 1968, and was sent to Vietnam.

Following his honorable discharge from the service, Lonnie and Diane made Riverdale, Utah their home in 1970 and raised their family there.

Diane learned the value of hard work at an early age. She milked cows before and after school and enjoyed showing her livestock and sewing projects in the Franklin County, Idaho 4-H Program and County Fair. She instilled that work ethic in each of her children and worked hard at whatever she set out to do. She was well known as a master seamstress and made dresses and other clothing for her young family, as well as countless quilts and receiving blankets over the years. She worked as a secretary in the Human Resources Department for Weber School District and retired in 2013. Diane enjoyed playing softball and volleyball and was a natural athlete. But she absolutely loved being in the stands and on the sidelines supporting and cheering for her children and grandchildren. She loved her family and was proud of all their accomplishments in school and in extracurricular activities. She especially enjoyed being a grandma and great grandma.

Diane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in countless callings. She had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and believed strongly in the power of prayer. She and Lonnie served diligently as Service Missionaries in the Jefferson 1st Ward in Ogden, Utah where they had an impact on the lives of many people. At the time of her passing, Diane was a Service Missionary in the Ogden Temple.

She is survived by her five children: Michelle (Rory) Tatton, Lori (Blake) Watkins, JoLynne (Chad) Kotter, Nate (Bradeigh) Godfrey, Jeff (Becca) Godfrey, and fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Ellen, her sister, Karen, her foster sister, Joyce, daughter Angela, and husband Lonnie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11 am at the Riverdale LDS Stake Center, 4000 Parker Dr., Riverdale, UT 84405. The family will meet with friends Friday, January 3, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 S. 2000 W., Syracuse, UT 84075 and again Saturday morning, January 4, 2025, at the Riverdale LDS Stake Center from 9:30 am – 10:30 am.
