Dee Demar Choate

Feb 26, 2025

February 27, 1944 — February 24, 2025

Dee Demar Choate, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday evening, February 24, 2025, three days before his 81st Birthday. He was born in Brigham City, Utah, on February 27, 1944, the son of Roland Demar and Merle Wood Choate.

As a young man, Dee was a member of the Civil Air Patrol where he was recognized as the highest-ranking cadet in Utah. He earned the honor of attending the Jet Orientation Course at Perrin Air Force Base where he flew the T-33 jet.

In 1964, Dee served a two-year mission to Oakland California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return, he served our country in the US Army during the Vietman War from 1966 to 1968. He continued in the US Air Force as a reservist, and was honorably discharged as a Major in 1995, after 20 years of service.

Dee married his sweetheart Carolyn Groves on March 19, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a wonderful life and raised their four children while pursuing their education and careers.

Dee graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Management. He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Brigham Young University.

Dee worked as a teacher and counselor at Weber Basin Job Corps helping underprivileged youth. Later he retired as an Environmental Compliance Officer with the US Government.

Dee loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and especially fishing. He spent countless hours perfecting his cast and telling anyone who would listen about the biggest fish he ever caught-a 53lb king salmon in Alaska. Dee was always eager to help others. He served diligently in many callings, including two bishoprics, and was particularly dedicated in planning and leading activities with the youth and scouting programs. In later years, Dee and Carolyn enjoyed serving a mission in inner-city Ogden and as ordinance workers at the Ogden Utah Temple.

Dee is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Corey (Shawn) Choate; daughters, Kimberly Choate, Emily (Timothy) Kavmark, and Ashlee (Randon) Kerr; five grandchildren, Skyelie, Kendyl, Grey, Cohen, and Remi; and three great-grandchildren, Beckham, Graham, and Noah; his twin brother, Lee (Gayleen) Choate; brothers, Dan Choate and Kimbal (Anneta) Choate; and brother-in-law, Melvin Campbell.

Dee was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Erma Campbell; his sister-in-law, Patti Choate; and his brother-in-law, Marvin Young.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 6th Ward Chapel, 4000 Parker Drive. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
