Sonja (Meme) N. Affleck

Feb 21, 2025

It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that we announce that our beautiful and beloved mother, Sonja (Meme) N. Affleck, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, at St. Marks Hospital in Millcreek, Utah, from complications of Pneumonia at the age of 87.

Sonja was born to Clyde William and Mamie Ransom Nash on August 25, 1937, in Preston, Idaho. She lived in Preston until she graduated from Preston High School.

Sonja’s family and friends will remember her for her incredible strength, compassion, joy, kindness, beauty, mischievous sense of humor, laughter, and tremendous love for her family and friends. She endured many storms and losses in this life with resilience, humility, and grace. Sonja loved to dance and sing to many classics and 80s music.

In her later years, Sonja named herself MeMe (because it was all about her) with a smile. Her family will confirm it was all about her. She was the (our) Queen of everything.

Growing up in Preston, Sonja had various jobs, including picking beans and beets on local farms. After high school, Sonja enjoyed working at GMAC as an accountant with great pride. GMAC loved her work so much that they offered to have her back anytime after she left. Later, Sonja worked in El Toro, California, as a pharmacy clerk, doing various jobs, including the post office for Rite Price Pharmaceutical. Sonja loved working with her co-workers at the pharmacy, who became her good friends.

Sonja married her high school sweetheart, Grant C. Affleck, and later divorced. They had three children: Susan, Robert Charles, and Kimberlee Affleck.

Her three children survive Sonja: Susan A. Stroup (Eric W. Stroup), Robert C. Affleck (Carleen Marra Affleck), and Kimberlee Affleck (Angelique Colemere). Grandchildren – Christopher Nathan Olpin (Amber Brianne Watkins Olpin), Kolby Grant Olpin, Matthew Michael Olpin, Christa Affleck (Jeffrey David Lindahl), Tanner Affleck (Fiancé Tyla Gariepy). Great Grandchildren – Aria Brielle Watkins Olpin, Eden Sparrow Olpin, Jesalyn Lee Olpin, Ryker Zane Olpin, Robert Blaine Lindahl, Kinley Marra Lindahl, Dorothy Rene Lindahl. Including beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sonja is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde William Nash and Mamie Ransom Nash, and siblings (sissy) Clydean Roskelley, Blaine Ransom Nash, and Keith Weldon Nash: granddaughter Brittany Lee Olpin, nephew Robert Roskelley, and so many cherished loved ones.

Nat King Cole sang the lyrics to the song ” Unforgettable,” which best describes what is in our hearts. Unforgettable, that’s what you are, unforgettable though near or far, Unforgettable in every way, and forevermore, that’s how you’ll stay. We love you, Momma, to the moon, to the stars, to the earth, to the sky, to infinity, infinity, infinity, and beyond.

Services for Sonja will be held on February 28th, with viewing and gathering from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah 84404.
